Portmanteau is a Melbourne based architecture and interiors practice focusing on bespoke residential, hospitality and commercial projects.

A collaborative relationship with clients is central to our practice. We begin by understanding how people live and work, then shape design responses that support their lifestyle and future aspirations. We listen, challenge assumptions, and work transparently within budget and program constraints, staying closely involved from concept to completion to ensure a quality outcome.

Founded by Caroline Tan, the studio draws on her multidisciplinary background spanning architecture, fashion, and textiles. This informs a refined approach to materiality and tactility, rooted in an understanding of how form, building fabrics and the surrounding environment interact with the body.
