The Portmanteau design methodology is context-driven and environmentally responsive. A collaborative relationship with clients is central to our practice. We begin by understanding how people live and work, then shape design responses that support their lifestyle and future aspirations.

We listen and also challenge assumptions.

We work transparently within budget and program constraints, staying closely involved from concept to completion to ensure a quality outcome.

Each project is led by Caroline Tan with over 15 years experience in the industry. Her design ethos also draws on her multidisciplinary background spanning architecture, fashion and textiles. This informs a refined approach to materiality, rooted in an understanding of how form, tactility and building fabrics interact with people.
